Sustainability: Fabric-first upgrades, enhanced thermal performance, maximised natural daylight and passive connection to the surrounding landscape.
The extension is centred around a dramatic vaulted living space framed by expressive exposed oak trusses and expansive areas of glazing. Large-format sliding doors and full-height gable glazing create a strong visual connection to the surrounding gardens, allowing natural light to flood deep into the interior while blurring the boundary between inside and outside.
Deep overhangs and covered terraces extend the living spaces outward, creating sheltered external areas that can be enjoyed throughout the seasons.
Architecturally, the design draws inspiration from traditional rural forms and craftsmanship, reinterpreted through a cleaner and more contemporary language.
Natural stone walling, exposed structural timber and finely detailed glazing combine to create a warm and tactile palette that sits comfortably alongside the original dwelling. The exposed timber structure becomes both a functional and sculptural element, giving rhythm, depth and character to the new spaces internally and externally.
Internally, the extension transforms the way the house is experienced, introducing generous open-plan living spaces with a greater sense of volume, light and connection to the landscape. Carefully framed views, vaulted ceilings and layered spaces create an atmosphere that feels calm, refined and deeply rooted within its setting.
