The proposal introduces a sculptural twin-gabled extension that brings a strong architectural identity to the rear of the property while remaining grounded in the scale and character of the original dwelling. Inspired by traditional forms yet expressed with a contemporary language, the design combines vaulted ceilings, exposed timber structure and expansive glazing to create calm, generous living spaces filled with natural light.
At the heart of the scheme is a new open-plan kitchen, dining and family space arranged beneath dramatic pitched roof forms. Full-height glazing and corner glass openings dissolve the boundary between inside and out, framing views across the garden and allowing the living spaces to spill naturally onto sheltered terraces and outdoor dining areas.
A new first-floor principal suite sits above the extension, benefitting from elevated views across the landscape and a private balcony tucked beneath the roofline. Deep overhangs, exposed timber detailing and carefully composed proportions give the architecture warmth, rhythm and depth, while a restrained material palette of brick, render, natural timber and slate helps unify old and new.
Throughout the project, particular emphasis has been placed on atmosphere, light and everyday experience creating spaces that feel open and connected while remaining comfortable and intimate for family life. The result is a contemporary yet timeless intervention that transforms the way the home is lived in, while sitting comfortably within its mature garden setting.
